A small, intimate and affordable island retreat—with a Million Dollar View!

0pen seasonally from November through April: Thaidaho Vista is a quaint and intimate 4-room boutique B&B  guesthouse—styled in the image of a Tuscan villa—but with traditional Thai simplicity and aesthetics.

Perched atop Koh Mak’s highest hill, Thaidaho Vista enjoys the island’s best and most panoramic view.

Thaidaho Vista is a completely non-smoking property, meaning that no smoking is allowed anywhere inside or outside on the property.  Add to this our ongoing commitments to sustainability, and you have a uniquely fun, clean, green, eco-friendly escape for couples, friends, small families and single travelers.  Next vacation: take a break and enjoy the Vista!

About Us

Kat is from Thailand, Allen is from Idaho; together we are Thaidaho

Kat is a professional translator from Bangkok who reads, writes and speaks Thai, Japanese & English.  Kat is also, among other things, a talented artist who sketches, oil paints and water colors; a musician who plays guitar & sings; a cook who loves to bake, and a world-class Barista.

Allen is a Water Resources Engineer; ex-software developer; airplane pilot; skydiver; scuba diver; alpine skier & snowboarder, amateur photographer, cook, lifelong traveler and lover of art, music and most of all—Kat!

Rooms & Suites

At Thaidaho Vista, you won’t find big flat screen TV’s, or your bath towels folded like swans. What you will find are clean, comfortable rooms that are quiet, private, functional and thoughtfully appointed.

Kat’s Vista Café & Coffee Shop

Open Daily 10am~4pm, December ~ March 15, Closed Sundays

With both indoor and outside seating, Kat’s Vista Café & Coffee Shop serves a full assortment of hot and cold fresh ground coffee drinks, hot and cold teas, soft drinks, Kat’s original handmade sodas, Thai fruit smoothies, yogurt fruit lassi’s and an assortment of Thai beer.  In addition, Kat has a complete old fashioned ice cream fountain with sundaes, shakes and banana splits, homemade coconut ice cream from Trat, and her own fresh baked cakes and brownies. Kat is a world class barista and mixologist who lovingly makes and bakes everything in her coffee shop by hand.

Kat serves the island’s only ‘through-the-fence’ Northern Thai Coffee—purchased directly from Thai farmers without middle men or brokers by one of Kat’s friends; then roasted in Bangkok before being sent to Koh Mak.  As a result, Kat’s coffee not only tastes great, but it feels good, too!

Comfortable Rooms

At Thaidaho Vista, we’re not big on ‘frills and fancy.’ You won’t find big flat screen TV’s or your towels folded like swans.  What you will find is a clean and comfortable room with Air/Con, fan, mosquito screens on all doors & windows, a western toilet, a hot water shower, liquid bath soap & shampoo, a hair dryer, fresh bath towels & hand rags and in-room WiFi.

Great Food & Coffee

For many years the Stefan Loose German language travel guide to Thailand stated that Thaidaho Vista served the best breakfast on Koh Mak.  We think we still do, but now we cook only for you—our room guests!  In addition, Kat is a world-class barista who serves Koh Mak’s only ‘through-the-fence’ fresh ground Northern Thai coffee.  So breakfast at Thaidaho Vista is more than just great; it’s an institution!

Owner Operated

Thaidaho Vista is our home.  We have no staff, choosing instead to keep things small and personal by doing everything ourselves.  This provides you with the somewhat rare opportunity to chat directly with us–as owners and local island residents–about travel options, beaches, island activities, dinner recommendations and much more.

Koh Mak offers many activities for the visitor, from beautiful beaches to great food; and from scuba diving and snorkeling to sea kayaking and bicycling.  Koh Mak is a relatively small and generally flat island no more than 10km wide by 5km tall. Thaidaho Vista is perched atop the island’s highest hill, centrally located within a short walk to more than 15 eateries and all three of the island’s largest beaches.  Visitors can rent bicycles, motor scooters or golf carts for sight seeing and to explore the more distant beaches and restaurants. Check out ‘The Island’ for valuable information and links to various activities, as well as our own Koh Mak map—which we update every year.

Each room at Thaidaho Vista includes shared use of our Guest Kitchen, our Guest Laundry area, and our Guest Exercise Room.

The guest kitchen is well equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hot water machine, toaster, free drinking water and all the necessary cups, glasses, plates, flatware.  In addition, there is an Honor Bar/Refrigerator stocked with soft drinks and mixers, beer, alcohol, ice, and if desired, some of Kat’s fresh ground northern Thai coffee.  There are both indoor and outdoor sitting/eating areas with panoramic ocean views located just off the guest kitchen.

The free guest laundry area includes laundry detergent, a washing machine, clothes sink, clothes lines and a folding table.

Our new Air/Con guest exercise/yoga room is furnished with a weight machine, elliptical machine and yoga mats, and is available for guests from 8am to 8pm, daily.

Room rates include our fresh ‘cooked-to-order’ B&B breakfast, served daily from 8am to 9:30am, December 2 through May 1.

Kat and Allen are doing what they do so well. They have an amazing spot with a beautiful view. Thaidaho Vista is on the hill about a 5 minute walk from the beach. From helping us with honest info about transport from Bangkok, transport options on the island, best beaches, places to eat, etc, they were lovely hosts. Their breakfast is phenomenal, western breakfast done absolutely perfectly. The coffee shop and baked goods are top notch. The little touches all around the place are fantastic, a lending library (books and video), an honor bar of snacks and drinks, and comfortable areas to lounge and relax all make for a great spot to stay. We would totally stay with them again if we return to Koh Mak.

In january I was at the Thaidaho at Kat & Allen for the 5th time and it will not be the last time I was there. It is a unique, special place full of beauty, tranquility and charm. You will notice that Kat and Allen put in a lot of work and love and think very carefully about how they can offer their guests a perfect oasis to relax. The café is open to foreign guests at 09:30, so that the hotel guests have the whole beautiful area in the morning at first just for themselves. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired and the coffee is by far the best on the island. Now they have a small fitness room, where you could train Kat's delicious cakes and desserts. This time I spent 8 nights in Vista room again. The view from there is bombastic! Kat and Allen have many tips on where to eat the best, where to find the best drinks, where to enjoy the most beautiful beaches, etc. The two are more than hosts to me, they have become friends, and coming back is also a homecoming. Koh Mak and especially Thaidaho Vista are a gem and should be one of the places you should visit at least once in a lifetime!

“10 out of 10 for everything. We absolutely loved staying here and would highly recommend it for anyone travelling to Koh Mak. “Thaidaho Vista is ideally located on the wonderfully secluded/low-key island of Koh Mak -- ideal to relax, enjoy culinary treats and dive. Nothing beats the spectacular view overlooking the beach and neighboring islands while enjoying a self-prepared fresh fruit salad for breakfast on the porch. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Beds are super comfortable. Allen and Kat were wonderful hosts; answering all of our queries thoroughly and rapidly via mail; and providing us with a range of recommendations on sights and dining that made our vacation one to remember. We are definitely looking forward to visiting again!”

“We had an amazing stay at Thaidaho with Allen and Kat and wish we could've stayed longer! The room was immaculate, with a great attached bathroom, air conditioning, a shared kitchen and communal space, and the view is to die for!! The best beaches on the island are a 5 to 7 minute walk, and if you're up for riding a scooter you can rent one right down the street and explore even more of the island. Koh Mak is an amazing place and Allen and Kat were wonderful hosts. Allen has amazing recommendations for anything you want to see, do or eat on the island. We would highly recommend Allen and Kat/Thaidaho, and can't wait to visit again soon!”

Holiday in paradise - We stayed at Thaidaho for almost a week with a group of friends in three of the four rooms. Allen and Kat run this resort and café all by themselves. Very impressive. The organization via email was fast and uncomplicated. They even booked us a speedboat and provided us with a contact for organizing a private driver from Bangkok. All the rooms were very clean and had everything you needed (A/C, fan and mosquito nets above the bed and on the doors and windows). They clean the rooms just once a week (they focus on environmental protection very much), which was totally okay for us. If you need new towels or anything else, you could always ask them for. There also was a guest kitchen with free drinking water and you could use the washing machine for free as well. The property itself is very lovely and the view is stunning. You can relax in the hammocks and sunbeds in the backyard. Keep in mind that it is not near the beach but you could walk there in about 10 minutes - this wasn't a problem for us at all. You also get a food and beverage voucher everyday for the café, where the food and coffee is very delicious. Even if you are not staying in the resort, you should go to the café and enjoy the perfect view. Thaidaho Vista is very lovely and we had a wonderful time on Koh Mak. I would totally recommend staying there and we are trying to come back soon.

“Allen and Kat are great hosts, right from the start the communication was perfect. On arrival Allen gave us many tips on where to go and eat on the island, which we greatly appreciated. They have the best view on the island, great rooms with all the essentials for a comfortable stay plus shared kitchen, gym and beautiful outdoor space - all very well maintained and cared for, we could not have asked for more. The location is very close to beaches, numerous restaurants and shops. An added bonus which made the place even more special for us was that it was environmentally friendly and products like coffee and more were responsibly sourced, water was provided free from a big container which negated the need for plastic bottles, etc. We loved our stay there and wished we could have stayed for longer!”

The coffee lovers natural habitat - My girlfriend and me stayed at Thaidaho Vista for a week in march 2019. We absolutely loved the place - and extended our stay within an hour upon arrival. Koh Mak is a beautiful Island with loads of accommodation in every style and budget. There's cheap beach huts and fancy resorts. Thaidaho Vista, in our view, is somewhere in the middle and yet very special. Kat and Allen have created a beautiful place upon the hill with a stunning view. As we rented a scooter, every beach was nearby and the owners are happy to give recommendations where to go, eat or book daytrips anytime. They know this Island and its surrounding very well and we were never disappointed by their advice. We loved the breakfast (big time) and the fact that they block the cafe for their guests in the morning, creating a very familiar and quiet atmosphere. This quiet atmosphere can also be found in the garden, providing a great space to read and enjoy the view. Our ground floor room was clean and had a spacious bathroom - we didn't miss a thing. If you're looking for a flat screen TV, daily room service or are a smoker, I think there might be better suited resorts on the Island for you. If you can appreciate the opportunity to do your own laundry for free (as we happily did twice after traveling Thailand for two weeks), or are looking for a "home base" to go explore the Island, or simply love world class coffee as much as we do, this is the place to go. We hope to come back.

Allen and Kat, thank you the lovely stay! Maya & Luca
