Koh Mak: Location & History

Koh Mak is a small, quiet island on the east side of the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border.  About five hours from Bangkok and one hour from the mainland by speedboat, Koh Mak is located midway between its two larger and more well known neighbors: Koh Chang to the north, and Koh Kood to the south.

Koh Mak remains privately owned, mostly by the same five families who originally developed agriculture on the island over 100 years ago.  Due to the ongoing influence of these five families, Koh Mak remains one of the few ‘quiet islands’ left in Thailand where you won’t find jet skis or girly bars.
