Koh Mak: Location & History

Koh Mak is a small, quiet island on the east side of the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border.  About five hours from Bangkok and one hour from the mainland by speedboat, Koh Mak is located midway between its two larger and more well known neighbors: Koh Chang to the north, and Koh Kood to the south.

Kat & I discovered Koh Mak in 2010, and soon after moved there seasonally to start and run Thaidaho Vista Resort: our little tropical island paradise B&B and Coffee Shop.  We spent the next 10 winters on Koh Mak running Thaidaho Vista, while returning each summer to Idaho to run our Thaidaho Asian Treats commercial food business.

We closed Thaidaho Vista  Resort in early 2020, at the beginning of Covid, but we still have many good friends there.  If you will be visiting Koh Mak, we can sincerely recommend you contact our friends Leng at Smile Cooking School, and Name at Talay Time.  For general information about the area, and truly GREAT content, contact our friend Ian at Iamkohchang.com.
